Forget Sports Personality – A hero of our time!
The recent news all about Marcus Rashford (@marcusrashford) has switched from his undoubted football skills for Manchester United and England, to his campaign for free school meals.
The Covid-19 lockdown has impacted everyone in different ways. Yet this young man who could have remained sheltered in his protected football World, chose otherwise.
His relentless campaign forced a Government back down to allow free school meals over the summer and he continues action to extend the decision over Christmas.
He has also extended his campaign to support a a wider audience. His recent petition to parliament reached the necessary 100,000 signatures in less than 10 hours!
Already awarded an MBE, Marcus is now in line for a special award at the Sports Personality of the Year Award on December 20th 2020.
He cannot win the main award as the rules state that the candidates are judged on their sporting performance. Where does the word personality enter into the rules?
Marcus is the stand-out sporting personality for all he has achieved this year and a winner in our hearts.
